How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

Facial expressions like frowning, squinting, smiling and jaw clenching repeatedly activate specific muscles, which over time lead to permanent lines, wrinkles and in the aspect of masseter a larger muscle due to repetitive use. Anti-wrinkle injections block the signals between the nerve and muscles that cause these contractions. By interrupting this process, the treated muscles stay in a relaxed state, preventing the formation of new lines and softening existing ones.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?

Discomfort is extremely minimal for anti-wrinkle injections as a very fine needle is used. No numbing is usually required.

How long does anti-wrinkle last?

On average results last up to 12 weeks and are dependent upon individual characteristics. We expect the product to be working at its peak at around the 4-6 week mark and then will gradually wear off until the 12 week point when your next treatment is recommended.

We recommend that you visit us 3-4 times per year to ensure we maintain your desired results.

When will I see results of my anti-wrinkle treatment?

The effects gradually work over a period of 2 weeks as the medication works on relaxing the targetted muscles. Improvements are typically noticed within 3-4 days of treatment with the full result at 2 weeks.

A complimentary review appointment is offered at 14-21 days post your initial appointment to review your results and identify if any adjustments are needed.

Is anti-wrinkle for dynamic or static lines?

Anti-Wrinkle treatments are predominantly for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles.

 

Dynamic Wrinkles are lines that appear with facial expressions—such as frowning, smiling, or raising your eyebrows. These lines are not visible when your face is at rest. By injecting targeted muscles with a muscle relaxant (Botulinum Toxin A), movement is temporarily reduced, which prevents these expression lines from becoming permanent over time.

 

Static Wrinkles, on the other hand, are visible even when your face is at rest. These deeper, more ingrained lines develop as a result of repeated facial movements over the years and natural collagen loss. While anti-wrinkle injections can soften static lines, it’s important to note that this treatment won’t completely erase them. However, regular treatments can help prevent them from deepening further.

Male clients typically have stronger facial muscles, which require a higher dosage of product to achieve optimal results. This is reflected in the treatment pricing.

What are the side effects for anti-wrinkle treatments?

Anti-wrinkle injections are typically a safe and widely performed treatment.

 As with any injectable procedure, some side effects may occur.

 

Common side effects may include: Redness at the injection site, Mild swelling, Bruising, A slight headache the day of treatment (usually temporary), Mild asymmetry or uneven results initially (often settles as the product takes full effect).

These are typically mild and resolve on their own within a few hours to a couple of days.

 

Less common but possible side effects: Temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow (ptosis), Dry eyes or excessive tearing, Temporary facial weakness near the injection area.

 

Rare but serious side effects are extremely uncommon and will be thoroughly discussed during your medical consultation prior to treatment. This includes any risk of allergic reaction, infection, or undesirable muscle effects.
